Following the 22 Helicopter Base requirement for operational English language training, MATC (Multinational Aviation Training Centre) is developing the Operatioonal English Language Course for Door Gunners (OELC-DG). This language training will be conducted in one of the MATC locations, Helicopter Training Point (HTP) Ostrava. The course will be instructed by British Qualified Helicopter Tactics Instructors (QHTI). The tactical simulator will be used in the final part of the course to simulate the tactical scenarios to prompt the correct and timely use of key phrases by students - door gunners from MATC countries - Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia. Later, the intention is to extend training to include flight engineers and rear crew from any country requesting operational language training.
Norway provided funds through the MHI (Multinational Helicopter Initiative) trust fund for two OELC-DG courses. This provision triggered intensive preparatory effort with UK QHTIs visiting 22 Helicopter Base at Namest to discuss the content of the course directly with the trainees. The British instructors have a long association with Czech helicopter crews, as they have been providing the EDA (European Defence Agency) Helicopter Tactics Course (HTC) in RAF Linton-on-Ouse, attended by the Czech crews since 2012. A very productive exchange of information laid the good foundation for the OELC-DG syllabus development, which will be in line with NATO and EDA training standards. The first four-week course for 10 trainees is expected to start in April.

MATC is coordinating „The Operational English Language Courses for Door Gunners“ (OELC-DG) in cooperation with LOM-HTP Ostrava Simulation Centre. The first Course will start in MAR 2017.
